Traditional Irish Folk Dances

There are many traditional folk dances of Ireland that were performed by revellers and strawboys. One of these dances is the brush dance

Also know as the broom or besom dance, this dance was traditional done using the heather from the bog which would then be tied to a large stick that would be used to sweep the floor. Dancers would step around it, jump across it, pass it under their legs and do many other stunts while dancing their best foot work. The way in which it's danced varies greatly from region to region in Ireland and also depends on the agility and creativity of the dancer.
